Our Assessment Process
Intake Meeting
Meet with the psychologist for a 1.5 hour intake meeting to discuss referral reasons, developmental history, and background information.
Direct Testing
Testing occurs across 1-3 sessions totaling 3-4 hours. The psychologist works directly with the individual using standardized assessment tools.
Report Preparation
Following data collection, a comprehensive report is prepared with clinical findings, diagnostic impressions, and detailed recommendations.
Feedback Session
The process concludes with a 1.5 hour feedback session reviewing results, discussing implications, and answering questions.

Additional Services
For additional services, such as parent coaching or tailored assessment, Blossom Psychology’s fees are $250 per hour. This is consistent with the fee guidelines of the Psychologists' Association of Alberta (PAA).
Fees, Insurance & Funding FAQ
Are psychological assessments covered by Alberta Health Care?
No. Assessments provided in private practice are not covered by the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan (AHCIP). However, many extended health benefit plans (through your or your partner's employer) cover services provided by a Registered Psychologist, in part or in full. Check with your benefits provider about your annual coverage limit for psychological services.
Can I claim the assessment through my insurance or benefits?
We provide official receipts from a Registered Psychologist that you can submit to your extended health benefits provider for reimbursement. Some plans require a physician's referral for reimbursement, so it's worth confirming your plan's requirements before booking. Contact us if your insurer needs any specific documentation.
Do I need a doctor's referral to book an assessment?
No referral is needed. You can book directly with us. As noted above, some insurance plans require a physician's referral for reimbursement, so check your plan if you intend to claim the fees.
Are assessment fees tax deductible?
Fees paid to a Registered Psychologist may qualify as an eligible medical expense under the Canada Revenue Agency's medical expense tax credit. Keep your receipts and speak with your tax professional about your situation.
How long does the assessment process take?
The assessment itself involves a 1.5-hour intake meeting, 3–5 hours of testing across 1–3 sessions, and a 1.5-hour feedback session once the report is complete. Overall timelines vary with scheduling and the scope of the assessment. Typically an assessment takes 4–6 weeks from intake to the feedback meeting.
Will schools accept the assessment report?
Yes. Assessment reports written by a Registered Psychologist can be used by Alberta schools to inform Individualized Program Plans (IPPs), classroom accommodations, and applications to gifted and specialized programs. Reports for adults can similarly support workplace and post-secondary accommodations, where applicable.
Can an assessment help us access funding or support programs?
A diagnostic report can support applications to programs and funding supports available in Alberta, such as Family Support for Children with Disabilities (FSCD) for children, or post-secondary accessibility services for adult students.
